Adafest @ the Computer History Museum

Visit the Computer History Museum on Sunday, December 13 to celebrate the 200th birthday of Ada Lovelace.

In connection with the museum's newest exhibit Thinking Big: Ada, Countess of Lovelace (December 12, 2015–December 11, 2016), Adafest is part of the Museum’s year-long Lovelace celebration and furthers our ongoing initiative to highlight and honor women in technology.

Come meet local artisans, uncover the sights and styles of Victorian England, and explore Ada’s life through storytelling, live demonstrations, and tours. We’ll even have a costume contest! The Museum will be open until 7:00 PM, with free admission after 4:00 PM. Museum members can enjoy a special morning reception and shop the store’s Semi-Annual Sale all day, with 25 percent off everything—just in time for the holidays!

I will be reading Ada Byron Lovelace and the Thinking Machine at 11:00am and leading a drawing workshop at 12:30.

Launch Party for Ada Byron Lovelace and the Thinking Machine

IMG_2647 (1).jpg

Celebrate the launch of my latest illustrated book Ada Byron Lovelace and the Thinking Machine on international Ada Lovelace Day! Ada Lovelace was a pioneer of technology and continues to be a role model. What better way to honor the achievements of women in STEM than the release party of a book all about this revolutionary woman!

Ada Lovelace, the daughter of the famous romantic poet, Lord Byron, develops her creativity through science and math. When she meets Charles Babbage, the inventor of the first mechanical computer, Ada understands the machine better than anyone else and writes the world’s first computer program in order to demonstrate its capabilities.

This spellbinding illustrated biography introduces children to the possibilities of science and technology at a young age. Over a hundred years before the invention of the electronic computer, when women had very few options outside the home, Ada followed her aspirations and became the world’s first computer programmer. The story serves as an inspiration for children, especially girls, to be fearless in pursuing their passions.
