Yesterday, I reviewed proofs for my first book, Summoning the Phoenix: Poems and Prose About Chinese Musical Instruments! This is the part of the book making process that I was looking forward to since I first started the project last November. Since I draw in pencil and then do the coloring portion of my work on the computer, I don’t actually have any “originals.” So it was extremely exciting for me to see the artwork and text printed on actual sheets of paper…and to be able to hold it in my hands.
With the publisher’s logo, barcode, and ISBN number…it’s officially almost a book!
Besides a tiny, unidentifiable mark on one of the illustrations…the proofs all looked gorgeous. The color and details came out amazing. Now it’s off to the printers and ready for Spring 2014 publication!
